With this activity students will be able to learn about the history of Turkey and the people that lived there 9,000 years ago. They can relate their knowledge of America's past and compare it to how people in Turkey were living in the past.
Upper Elementary
With a print out version of the book Who are the Turks?, there are both readings and activities. The book goes over the history, evolution, culture and literature of Turkey. This will go into more depth than just this website, and is appropriate for students in middle school to learn more about the country.

Fine Arts
In 1925, Turkey became the Republic of Turkey and before it was known as the Ottoman Empire. In 1826 while the Ottoman Empire tried to modernize itself and adopted a universal hat for all the males in the country known as the fez. You can learn even more about the fez here.
For an art project though you can make a Fez with your class. For directions on how to make the Fez with your class click here!
